Boring status update1/6/10

I lied in the last update. I’m sorry. Since Dead Simple Neo 2 was released, I have worked on 3 different map projects for Sven Co-op, and more are planned for the future.
The first project I started is still under construction. No details as of yet.
The second project was the Community Map Project. An ancient map series involving 15 different mappers which was started back in December 2002. After a nearly 2 year long coma, I picked up the project and released it on December 24, 2009, seven years after the project had started.
The third project was a map called Rickshaw, intended as a small break from the first project. It was released on April 25, 2010.
In other news, Dead Simple Neo 2 won third place in the mapping contest.
In other, other news, I have finally done a thorough update of this website and all maps are now in the proper sections.
That is all for now.

Generic Update Title6/9/09

Time for an update.
Back in late august I released an updated version of Dead Simple Neo. Due to the update taking roughly the same amount of time as the original version, and due to the gameplay being radically reworked, I decided to designate it as a sequel, so the new name is Dead Simple Neo 2. Click here for thread link. I’m planning to submit this map for the SC mapping contest that you most likely know about if you know this website. If not, there’s some info on the contest here.

In other news, I decided Demon Prey wasn’t worth finishing. The map was made back in 2004 when I was still quite new to mapping, and it shows. The map is full of newbie mistakes and the design of the map simply doesn’t lend itself to any fun or interesting gameplay. Some of the map might still see the light of day however, as the source files have been given away to a guy who was interested in using them.

At the moment I’m working on the hl2 project I briefly mentioned years ago. It will probably be a few months before I reveal what the hell that’s about.
DSN2 is likely to be the last map I create for SvenCo-op, although I’m constantly getting new ideas for maps. Those ideas will have to wait though, as I’d rather move a bit away from SC and start working on other things.
The website is still in need of an update to get all the information up to date, but I’m simply too lazy to get it done.
That's about it for this time. BUH BYE

Wait... I have a website?2/6/09

Ahh, the days of yore. 2007. When polar bears roamed the streets freely and news updates were regular. A lot has happened since the last update. So much that I simply can't be bothered writing a proper update. Instead I'll just give you a quick rundown of the events. There's not going to be any pictures so you might as well not read it.

- Ragemap, a collaboration between 26 different mappers, got released about a month after the last news update. Each mapper was given 1 hour to create their section of the map, hence the "rage" part of the name, and I was tasked with providing the first section of the map. Download link: http://scmapdb.wikidot.com/map:ragemap

- The Xen map I mentioned in the last update was cancelled. I think I ran out of clipnodes...

- Sven Co-op 4.0 got released! Santa Garg delivered SC 4.0 Beta on December 24th. It was 409 Megabytes big and it suffered from mild deformities. Funny thing, pretty much every major SC release was in December.

- My map Abandoned got released along with Sven Co-op 4.0. Technically this means that I ought to place the map in the "Released section", but I can't be bothered doing that right now. The map was also featured for 12 seconds in an SC 4.0 trailer shown to a gaming magazine, which name I can't remember, at E3 '08. I'm kinda proud of that one, how minor it may be :p

- A few days after the 4.0 release, I released Dead Simple Neo, the map you see in the W.I.P. section, which I'm not gonna bother updating right now. Currently working on an update for the map.

- Sven Co-op turned ten! Sven Co-op 0.8 was released on January 19th 1999, making it the oldest Half-Life mod in existence (the SDK wasn't even released at that time).

- I started working on a new Sven map a few months back. Can't really tell any more at this point, and I'm not sure what's gonna become of it. It's currently on hold, as are the rest of my mapping projects. In a month or so, once my exams are over, I'll resume mapping, and I'll see what I can do about finishing Demon Prey.

- Just a few weeks ago, a hotfix for SC was released. And another one a few days later. They contained a few minor fixes and tweaks, but most importantly they got rid of a console command enabling people to crash servers. Not pretty.

Turns out it wasn't such a quick rundown after all. Oh well.

And that's about it. There's a lot of outdated information on this site, but it's too minor for me to bother fixing.
This update might give off the impression that I'm a very lazy person, but it's only because I know that even if I don't update my site for about 2 years, my site is still interesting enough to retain my 80 monthly readers. I really admire your persistence guys, I really do. I think you guys deserve some credit. So here it is... :thumbs up:

Once upon a time... A series of organic tubes16/9/07

A few days ago the Steam Community finally went from beta status to being an official part of Steam. As expected, this has sparked the interest of all the loyal Steam users, and new Steam Groups have been popping up left and right. One of these new groups, dedicated to "all the people that live off energy drinks, coffee, sugar, and pretty much anything we eat and drink to keep play Sven Co-op till 5am(and entmod)", noticed that I from time to time load up the good ol' Sven to have some fun, and they decided to send me an invite. Naturally I was pretty excited to be a part of their community, but I had to clear up a few things first and I think that went alright.

In other news, I've been working a bit on a sideproject. It's a SvenCo-op map, in which the players take the role of a Survey Team stationed on a Xen outpost, and their objective is to extract a DNA sample from a Gonarch near the base. To do this, they must escort a specially trained scientist to the Gonarch, and then put the Gonarch to rest while making sure it takes as little damage as possible(to ensure that a perfectly clean sample can be retrieved). This is done by completing a relatively complicated boss sequence.
It's about 50% done at the moment, but I'm not sure if I'm going to finish it as I only work on it at rare occasions. Screenshots of the first area below.

In other, other news, stay tuned for a major update in the upcoming months. In other, other, other news, I was just invited to a new Steam Group while finishing the last sentence.

No more 1989.24/6/07

Notice anything different?
Just for the sake of having some screenshots, I have three. Some more useful than others.
Hope you approve of the changes here.

Oh, yeah, remember to use Firefox ;)

Long overdue update + screenshots.21/4/07

This has to be the most delayed update so far. The site hasn't been updated since 9/11, which has nothing to do with WTC since I'm not using the American dating system. A few things have happened that are worth talking about.
I played a part in a trailer for SvenCo-op 3.5 which can be found on my Youtube account along with a slew of other 3.5 videos.
On the SvenCo-op site we also held our annual april fools prank. Blizzard had supposedly bought the rights to Tor so he could be used in World of Warcraft instead of SC, and we used the money from the deal to hire a team of modellers from Gearbox and finish 3.5. Not the best idea ever, and it wasn't as successful as last year's prank, but we did get a few emails and a guy checking at the Gearbox forum just to make sure it wasn't a lie...
My SvenCo-op map, Abandoned, once again got broken in a new beta update and had to be fixed. Since I had to load up the old VHE 3.5 I decided to update some of my other maps, too.
I think it's about time for some screenshots now. Here's just a little of what I've been working on the past 5 months:

Small website redesign.9/11/06

I promised you a site redesign and here it is. Unfortunately I got lazy and decided on only doing a few minor adjustments. A lot of people probably won't notice a difference, but I think it looks a little more "professional" now.
Last time I promised to tell more about the singleplayer project I'm working on, and I will. I'm going to expand my website with some information about it. There, I told you a little more about it ;p

Map status, singleplayer project and website redesign.22/10/06

Wow, it's been quite a while since my last update. Sorry to the very few people who check this site from time to time :)
Demonprey and Abandoned are holding still. I'm waiting for Sniper, the SvenCo-op coder, to program the ability for monsters to follow a path and do assaults. Not much I can do to the maps before that.
The Shattered Society mod is pretty much dead, and I've decided to finish ss_dawn for a different mod. In fact, I just sent an email to the FLF:Source team to see if they're interested in it.
So what have I been working on? I've been working on a "little" singleplayer project for HL2 that I've been planning for a long time. I'll tell some more about it in the next update, which will probably also include a redesign of this website ;)

Small ss_dawn update.24/06/06

I decided it was time to show some of the progress I've made on ss_dawn recently. These buildings/structures will replace some of the older ones. It should be easy to guess which. The pictures were taken from hammer so they aren't very good quality. Still work in progress :)

General news + new map.10/06/06

Hmm, looks like 2 months passed again. Beta testing of Svenco-op 3.5 began about 2 months, and I decided that Abandoned would be released for the bronze version as a walkthrough map, and then changed to a VIP map in Silver or Gold. I managed to do a few tests of Abandoned with other players, and a screenshot is included in this newpost. I've been doing some minor work on Abandoned, Demon Prey and ss_dawn, and I've spent a lot of time trying to fix some crash bugs that started popping up in Abandoned. Before the crash errors popped up, I made a new "arena" map based on a Doom 2 map. More details on that in the W.I.P. section :)

ss_eos changes name to ss_dawn.12/04/06

Took some time, but ss_eos is back with a new name and screenshots! Check out the maps section for more screenshots.

Abandoned almost done.20/02/06

Abandoned is almost done now, and only needs the new 3.5 entities. I updated the maps section with some new info and screenshots. I will now begin working on ss_eos again, and hopefully I will have made enough progress to show some screenshots in a few weeks :)

New screenshots of Abandoned uploaded.16/01/06

I have uploaded some new in-game screenshots of my SvenCo-op 3.5 map "Abandoned". You can find them in the W.I.P. section. Hope you like them :)

Site is done.04/01/06

The site is done! Everything is finished and uploaded. If you have any comments or have any problems viewing my site please contact me.

Happy New Year!01/01/06
